Goodyear to test tires at Indy, June 1-3

UPDATE A reader writes, Dear AR1.com, They should rename the race the MayPop 400 because you never know when a Goodyear tire may pop! Mike Neubauer, Ohio

05/25/09 Goodyear has two tire tests scheduled next month at Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the tire manufacturer tries to find a way to avoid last year's debacle in the Allstate 400. Nine cars are scheduled to test June 1-3. Those scheduled to test are #14-Tony Stewart, #42-Juan Pablo Montoya, #9-Kasey Kahne, #7-Robby Gordon, #36-Scott Riggs, #12-David Stremme, #16-Greg Biffle, #21-Bill Elliott, and either #07-Casey Mears or #31Jeff Burton. The second test is expected to have at least a dozen teams June 15-17. Roanoke Times

[Editor's Note: Will Power ran 49 laps on a single set of Firestone tires during the Indy 500. Why can't Goodyear do this? They are really out to lunch when they claim the Indy surface is too abrasive. Yes it is abrasive, but not as abrasive as it once was when they first ground it several years ago. We wonder what tire company NASCAR will choose after the Goodyear contract is up. Their patience must be wearing thin.]
