Steve Letarte named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race

Hendrick Motorsports' Steve Letarte, crew chief for Jeff Gordon, has been named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race for Sunday's LifeLock 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

Gordon had an engine failure during practice Friday and, therefore, had to start at the rear of the field for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race. Gordon drove through the field and ended with a runner-up finish.

"We just fought hard," Gordon said. “We had to work our way up through traffic, and the car was there to do it, so once we got up there in the top 15 or so we had to make some adjustments. Top-five is something I'm going to be very happy with, and with second I'm even happier."

Bob Osborne, crew chief for Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards, Todd Berrier, crew chief for Richard Childress Racing's Casey Mears, Fox/Speed analyst Hammond and representatives from the Wypall brand serve as the panel for the award. In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage to announce the win on their pit box the following week. The crew chief with the most weekly wins will be honored as the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $20,000 check at the season finale.
