FIA’s sand trap
Disagree?
F1 in the US? Nope. Canada, no again. Anywhere in the Americas besides Brazil? Silverstone, the German Grand Prix… gone – lost to politics and Bernie’s retirement fund. Are costs out of hand? Not if teams can afford it. To cap the highest pinnacle in Motorsport with the FIA’s plan is asinine: It cuts the heart out of what ‘Formula One’ is all about. Like water, Grand Prix budgets seek their own level, i.e. it will fix itself. No surprise that Williams – who have struggled to field a competitive car for far too long – want to rearrange the deck chairs. Ditto for Renault who have had one foot out of F1 for the past few years.
Yes the FIA will have Monza, but the tifosi will stay away in droves when FOTA announces San Marino. The FIA will enjoy a weekend in Monaco with little change, but even the most faithful Brits will favor Silverstone over Donington.
Face the facts: Bernie and Mosley have pissed on everyone’s shoes for way too long, and when the marquee teams and drivers leave, whatever real value (that’s dollars & pounds in ‘Bernie-speak’) that remains with ‘Formula One’ will disappear.
These two have worn out their welcome, and regardless, they would be gone soon enough anyway. But why wait?
Good riddance to the FIA’s rubbish. (name withheld)
