Peter H. Kuhn dead at 54

Franklin Township, NJ – Peter H. Kuhn, age 54 years, of Franklin Township, Hunterdon County, NJ, died on Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Southern Ocean County Hospital, Stafford Township, NJ.

Born in Summit, NJ, April 14, 1955, son of Elizabeth "Lib" Dowd Kuhn of New Bern, NC and the late Jean Henry Kuhn, he had resided in Franklin Township since 1995, having formerly lived in Basking Ridge, NJ and Chatham Township, NJ.

Peter was an accomplished race car driver, having attained multiple titles in the 1978 Formula Ford Northeast Driving Championship and the 1980 BOSCH Formula Super-Vee National Driving Championship. In 1980, he won both the USAC and SCCA Formula Super-Vee championships. Following these IndyCar racing successes, Peter was a driver in the CART World Series and later became the executive vice president and general manager for ROBCO Racing Team and an American Les Mans Series team owner.

Peter became a self-employed contractor after leaving the world of motor sports to focus on his family. He was a wonderful husband and father, an avid surfer, a talented musician and a friend to all he met. It is impossible to assess the continued impact Peter’s death will have on the many who loved him.

His sister, Beth Clark, pre-deceased him in 2004.

Surviving in addition to his mother, are his wife of twenty-four years, Sarah Elliott Kuhn; two daughters, Carson Kuhn of Asbury Park, NJ and Tate Kuhn of Franklin Township, NJ; his mother-in-law, Beverley Elliott of New Hope, PA; a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Clark of Ann Arbor, MI; two sisters-in-law, Rebecca Rude of New Hope, PA and Abigail Gergasko of Santa Fe, NM; a brother-in-law Michael Gergasko, of Santa Fe, NM and several nieces and nephews, Peter Clark, Laura Clark, Jessica Landry, Daniel Rude, Eric Rude, Emily Gergasko and Martha Gergasko.

A celebration of Peter's life will be held on Wednesday, July, 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 2 Race Street, Pittstown, NJ. A reception will follow. Interment will be private in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ at a later date.
