Earlier start time for Glen race to help fans
In the first four IndyCar events at Watkins Glen, the start of the race had been later in the afternoon. Last year it started at 3:30 p.m. On Sunday, the race will start two hours earlier. The move was made after feedback the track received from fans.
The previous late starts were done primarily to provide a better fit for the Sunday television schedule and also to avoid being in direct competition with other major sports' traditional broadcasts. The late start times, however, weren't convenient for fans attending the event, especially those who had long trips home.
The green flag will wave for Sunday's 60-lap race at 1:30 p.m. With a projected finish of around 3:30 p.m., this will allows fans time to get home earlier Sunday evening.
