NY State Governor to serve as Honorary Starter
Watkins Glen International announced that the Governor of New York State, David A. Paterson, will be the Honorary Starter for this year’s Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen on Sunday, July 5. The Governor is scheduled to wave the green flag to officially start the 60-lap event at 1:20 PM. The Camping World Grand Prix at The Glen is one of only five IndyCar Series races to be broadcast live on ABC in 2009.
“It is an honor to serve as the Honorary Starter for this year’s Camping World Grand Prix and a great way for so many New Yorkers, including myself, to celebrate this holiday weekend," said Governor Paterson. “Watkins Glen International offers so many fun filled activities for New York’s families and tourists. I hope that all New Yorkers consider taking advantage of the 2009 season at Watkins Glen International."
“I’d like to thank the Governor for joining us during this weekend’s race," stated Michael Printup, president of Watkins Glen International. “This is the only stop in the state for the IndyCar Series, and we are proud to host him as our guest."
