F1 teams wow Russian fans
With an estimated 200,000 fans in attendance Heikki Kovalainen, David Coulthard and Kazuki Nakajima performed for the spectators on the temporary circuit.
"I couldn’t believe how many people came along to see Sunday’s demonstration," Kovalainen said. "The crowds were huge, packed deeply around the whole circuit and loving every minute of the performance.
"The MP4-23 is an old friend to everyone in our team," he said with reference to the 2008 challenger. "It was fantastic to get behind the wheel and just have some fun."
Coulthard may be retired from racing activities now, but this was his second trip the capitol and like any driver, enjoyed putting on a performance for the crowd.
"Motorsport has a lot of fans in Russia and it’s great to be able to give them this kind of show," Coulthard said.
Last year it was Nico Rosberg driving for Williams in the event, this year it was the turn of Nakajima.
"Nico went last year and I know now why he loved it so much," said Nakajima. “To drive a Formula One car alongside such iconic landmarks like the Kremlin and Red Square was amazing and an experience I will never forget."
While the three Formula One teams were the headline act, the KAMAZ-master rally team were also in action.
