IndyCar adopts Champ Car’s P2P concept

In a move to improve overtaking, the Indy Racing League has decided to allow a push-to-pass system on the cars for the remainder of this year's IndyCar Series.

Drivers will be allowed twenty twelve-second powerboosts per race, the Indianapolis Star reports. Each boost could provide up to twenty additional horsepower on the Indycar Honda engine, which should make overtaking easier.

This year especially, the series has suffered from a persistent lack of passing on both road courses and ovals, much to the dismay of both drivers and fans.

The approval of Champ Car's push-to-pass system is the latest in a series of countermeasures adopted by the Indy Racing League, including giving teams a wider range of aerodynamic parts to choose from.

The push-to-pass system will make its IndyCar debut on this weekend's Meijer 300 at the 1.5 mile Kentucky Speedway.
