07/31/09 The Wisconsin State Fair Park Board unanimously agreed Thursday night to try to finalize a deal with a new race promoter for the Milwaukee Mile. The interested group, which fair officials said has local ties, was not immediately identified. Susan Crane, chairwoman of the board, declined to identify the group because of a confidentiality agreement.

The group was one of three that submitted letters of intent to take over from Wisconsin Motorsports. On July 20, the board terminated its agreement with Wisconsin Motorsports, saying that group was unable to make a rental payment of $15,000. Wisconsin Motorsports also owed more than $2 million to the Indy Racing League and NASCAR for races staged earlier this year.

Crane said she hoped a new deal could be worked out as soon as possible.
