Massa to fly home Monday

UPDATE "I know I'm lucky to be alive – I don't remember anything about the accident but I will race again," said Massa.

He added: "When I woke up I didn't know why I was in hospital, so I was asking 'why am I here?'.

"I was pulling all the tubes and Eduardo, my brother, tried to stop me – so we had a fight. The accident was so unlucky but I know I'm lucky to be alive. I don't remember anything of what happened.

"It was my race, so when I awoke from the coma I couldn't believe it when they told me Lewis (Hamilton) had won and Kimi (Raikkonen) was second."

07/31/09 Felipe Massa will be discharged from the AEK hospital in Budapest and flown back to Sao Paulo in Brazil on Monday, according to the Brazilian’s personal doctor Dino Altmann.

Massa’s condition has continued to improve after undergoing surgery on a fractured skull, which was caused when a piece of debris collided with his head during Hungarian grand prix qualifying on Saturday, and has been deemed well enough to fly back to Brazil as early as Monday where he will continue to focus on his recovery.

Altmann said: "There is no need for Felipe to be taken to FIA Institute deputy president Gerard Saillant's clinic in Paris. He has to continue his recovery and go back racing as soon as possible, that's the plan," Altmann added. "He is in very good mood, he is in good shape. He wants to come back soon."
