Newey denies title will trigger F1 retirement

(GMM) Adrian Newey insists that a world championship for his Red Bull car design will not necessarily compel him to quit formula one.

The 50-year-old joined the Milton Keynes based team from McLaren in 2006, and with this season's sweeping regulation changes his RB5 is currently in contention for the title.

But even though Newey has made clear in the past his desire to one day focus on another engineering challenge – for example America's Cup yacht design – he played down suggestions a Red Bull crown will be the trigger for the end of his F1 career.

"I don't think what happens this year will affect what I do in the future," he told F1's official website.

"I still tremendously enjoy formula one, but at some stage I would like to be involved in another area outside of motor racing before I reach pension age."

Newey did admit, however, that with relative rules stability heading into the 2010 season, he will enjoy the challenge of next year's campaign less.

"In a sense yes, stable regulations mean that the designs along the pit lane converge and become evolutions of each other," he said.

"I do like the challenge of major regulation changes as it offers opportunity for fresh thinking," added Newey.
