Unwell Grosjean puts Renault reserve on stand-by

UPDATE (GMM) Romain Grosjean on Friday afternoon was cleared fit to drive in practice for the Singapore grand prix.

After a brief appearance at the Marina Bay circuit, the French-Swiss returned to his hotel on Thursday to recover from a bout of food poisoning.

Renault team reserve Lucas di Grassi was put on standby, performing the 'five second' cockpit extrication test in the garage.

Ultimately however Grosjean felt better on Friday, and will appear in the R29 as of the forthcoming initial Friday practice session.

The logos of ING and Mutua Madrilena have been removed from the team's cars and equipment overnight, but there has not been time to alter things like team clothing and press paper, which still bears the names of the departed sponsors.

09/24/09 (GMM) In the Renault garage on Thursday, Lucas di Grassi satisfied FIA observers that he can pass the '5 second test' as he unbuckled his seat-belts and leapt from the cockpit of the R29.

The team's 25-year-old Brazilian reserve driver has been ordered on stand-by in Singapore because regular driver Romain Grosjean is not feeling well.

After meeting with doctors, French-Swiss Grosjean, 23, returned early to his hotel room in the Asian city-state on Thursday to rest.

A decision about whether he can drive this weekend will be taken prior to the initial practice session on Friday evening.
