Kobayashi in for unwell Glock on Friday

UPDATE (GMM) Shortly after Friday's track activities at Suzuka, Timo Glock's manager said the German driver is well enough to return to the wheel of his Toyota on Saturday morning.

Glock, 27, was told by the Toyota doctor on Friday morning that he should stay in the trackside hotel with a high fever and cold. He was replaced by the team's Japanese reserve Kamui Kobayashi.

Manager Hans Bernd Kamps has confirmed that Glock's fever, as high as 39 early on Friday morning according to team president John Howett, has now subsided.

"He already wanted to practice in the afternoon but we decided with the team that he should continue to rest," Kamps is quoted as saying by the German media.

He added that it is "very likely" Glock will return to the TF109 on Saturday.

"I would say he will drive definitely," Kamps added. "The fever has been down now for several hours."

Toyota's chief engineer Dieter Gass confirmed: "Timo should be back tomorrow."

10/01/09 (GMM) Timo Glock will sit out the initial practice sessions at Suzuka because he is not feeling well, the Japanese team announced on Friday morning.

Even though it was Jarno Trulli suffering from a fever earlier this week, the Cologne based team said German Glock, 27, "has been advised to rest by the team doctor" with a "very heavy cold and fever".

However, some sources in the paddock expressed cynicism at the move, observing that while Glock was occasionally coughing during interviews on Thursday, he did not appear to be overly unwell.

Reserve driver and Japanese local Kamui Kobayashi, 23, will replace him, but Toyota said Glock is scheduled to return to the cockpit for qualifying and the race.

Kobayashi finished the 2009 GP2 main series in seventeenth place.

The Suzuka circuit was wet when the initial 90 minute session commenced at 10.30am local on Friday.
