Tony Renna Scholarship applications being accepted

PitFit Training Accepting Scholarship Applications, Indianapolis, IN – PitFit Training (PitFit), the recognized leader in developing driver-specific fitness, nutrition and human-performance programs to expressly address the physical and mental demands of the motorsports industry, today announced it is now accepting applications for the PitFit Training Tony Renna Scholarship.

“Sadly, in the sport of auto racing, death is a constant reminder that drivers are risking their lives every time they strap into the racecar," noted Jim Leo, President and fonder of PitFit Training. “Tony Renna was my closest friend and embodied the drive, character, and spirit all up and coming drivers should possess."

The program was developed and introduced in 2005 as a way of giving deserving young drivers the opportunity to bring their racing fitness to optimal levels. Past winners include Alexander Rossi, Joel Miller, Jeff Oleen, Miranda Throckmorton, and dozens more.

Applications for the Scholarship will be accepted until December 1, 2009.Winners will be announced by December 15, 2009 with Scholarship rewards beginning January 1, 2010. The selection criterion is stringent with a varied focus on race performance, community service, academics, and ability to maintain a focus on fitness. Applicants must submit an application which includes two essay questions on current topics of interest from today’s news. Those in consideration for the scholarship must be between 12 and 20 years of age and have completed at least one year of racing competition. They must also show proof of a confirmed racing schedule for the 2010 season. Six drivers from various series will be selected for 2010.

Scholarship winners will receive up to 20 training sessions ($1000 value) throughout the length of the scholarship (January 1 – October 31) at PitFit headquarters in Indianapolis, In. They also receive a seat kit from Bald Spot Sports ($325 value), FatHeadz sunglasses ( $150 value), Shock Doctor workout bags, helmet bags, and blowers ($250 value), and training apparel from PitFit Training ( $100 value ). Scholarship winners also receive unlimited access to PitFit Training’s online training programs at www.ePitFit.com .

The selection committee is comprised of PitFit staff, the Renna family, sponsors, drivers, and members of the racing community who were involved with Tony’s career at some stage. An added twist for the 2010 program is a fan voting system available through www.racefanradio.com that gives an extra edge to those drivers with the largest fan base. The drivers who are awarded the scholarship are expected to reflect the true character of Tony Renna and his never-ending drive to achieve his goals.
