Kubica to go rally racing

The Formula One season is over and with the winter testing period yet to begin, Robert Kubica will spend at least one weekend at the controls of a rally car.

The 24-year-old's name appears on the entry list for Sicily's Rally Taormina-Messina, where he will race at the wheel of a Renault Clio R3 on November 13th and 14th.

Rumors also point at the Pole's presence with the same car at the Rally du Var in France two weeks later – an event which features six-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb.

Kubica will be switching to the Renault F1 team next year; it is therefore not surprising to see him racing at the wheel of Renault machinery although Kubica already owns a former works Skoda Fabia WRC.

Fellow F1 driver Kimi Raikkonen, who participated in his maiden World Rally Championship round at Rally Finland last August, is also keen on the sport. The Finn, who has yet to confirm a place on the 2010 grid, is requesting a clause allowing him to drive at rallies and has shown interest in eventually taking on a WRC career.

F1 colleague Heikki Kovalainen has also indicated he wishes to try his hand at rallying in the near future. F1Live.com
