NASCAR ratings continue to slide

UPDATE ABC’s live coverage of Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway earned a final national household rating of 3.3, down from the 3.6 earned for the portion of last year’s race that aired on ABC. The telecast averaged 5,172,384 viewers. Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix aired live on ESPN2 and earned a final national household coverage rating of 1.1, down from the 1.3 rating earned for last year’s race that also aired on ESPN2. 11/16/09 ABC’s broadcast of Sunday’s Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Phoenix International Raceway earned an overnight Nielsen Media Research rating of 2.8, Street and Smith’s SportsBusiness Daily reports.

The figure is 17.6 percent lower than the 3.4 ABC earned overnight for the portion of the 2008 race that it carried before the event was switched to ESPN2. scenedaily.com
