Mercedes to announce drivers on New Year’s
Dieter Zetsche, head of Daimler – the parent company of Mercedes – has said that the team formerly known as Brawn GP will wait until the New Year before announcing its second driver. Nico Rosberg has already been signed, with 7-time World Champion Michael Schumacher currently rumored to be taking the second spot. With Mercedes having bought Brawn and Rosberg confirmed as moving from Williams, speculation has intensified as to who will be selected as his team-mate; with Schumacher's name constantly appearing in media reports, compatriot Nick Heidfeld has also been mentioned although some say the latter has now been retained by Sauber.
"We have, in Nico Rosberg, already signed an excellent driver and will know in the New Year who the second one will be," Zetsche revealed in Abu Dhabi at a public relations event.
Mercedes team CEO Nick Fry has already suggested that Schumacher would be a highly attractive proposition for the Brackley team although no clear-cut evidence has yet been presented to confirm the German's interest. gpupdate.net
