Happy New Year

The staff at AutoRacing1.com (AR1) would like to wish each of you a very Happy New Year.

Despite the global recession 2010 is shaping up to be a banner year. F1 will be most exciting in its 60-year history with a returning Michael Schumacher in his Mercedes doing battle with fellow title contenders Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.

IndyCar is still bogged down with a TV package no one watches and an antiquated car and engine, but will visit new venues in Brazil and Alabama, the finalization of the new car and engine rules, a new title sponsor in the way of IZOD and stronger team/driver lineups. The focus will again be on the two strong teams, Target Chip Ganassi and Penske Racing. Obviously the return of Danica Patrick will be the main headline at AGR, but with father Michael as sole owner of the team now will this be the year that Marco Andretti can live up to expectations? Can Ryan Hunter-Reay make a run for the title now that he is in top equipment?

NASCAR has been floundering because it's most popular driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr., still can't challenge for wins despite having the best car, but will get a uptick from sexy Danica Patrick. Can anyone stop the potent pairing of Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus from winning 5-straight titles?

ALMS has lost most of its manufacturers in the LMP classes, which forced them to merge LMP1 and LMP2, but the GT2 category will be the most exciting in ALMS history with Ferrari, Corvette, Porsche and BMW doing battle.

Not many changes in Grand-Am, but while it is saddled by the ugliest cars in all of racing, the competition on the track is second to none.

The 2010 season can't get started soon enough. Bring it on!
