Bourdais nominated for Driver of Century
Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing driver and four-time Champ Car champion Sebastien Bourdais is among nine drivers in the running for ESPN's Driver of the Decade, which will be awarded on Jan. 11 based on a vote from their panel of experts.
ESPN's Bourdais announcement:
Bourdais was the first open wheel or NASCAR driver to ever win four consecutive titles (2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007). Overall, four in a row is very rare in professional sports in general. In his five seasons in Champ Car, he went from Rookie of the Year to four-time champion and amassed 31 wins and 31 poles (42.4 percent each) as well as led a total of 2,103 laps out of a possible 6,905.
Other candidates include IndyCar/NASCAR driver Sam Hornish, Jr., NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson, World Rally driver Sebastien Loeb, sports car driver Tom Kristensen, Moto GP champion Valentino Rossi and three more candidates that will be revealed in the coming days.
