Buemi’s Canadian ice drive cancelled
Sébastien Buemi had been scheduled to drive a Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car over the Olympique Bassin in Montreal at the weekend although the Swiss driver was eventually deprived of doing so due to the conditions in Canada, with warmer temperatures than expected. With the Toro Rosso driver due to have crossed the frozen Olympic rowing canal behind the paddock of the Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve in the east-central province of Quebec, the still freezing but warmer than anticipated temperatures prevented the display run from taking place.
"It is disappointing that the Red Bull Frozen One Showcase has been cancelled due to unstable ice conditions created by warm weather patterns," event organizers Red Bull Canada said. "The event was scheduled to take place on Sunday on the frozen waters of the Olympic Basin.
"A new date has not been set but we are looking into the possibility of rescheduling. We would like to thank the residents of Montreal for their enthusiasm and hope to celebrate the return of F1 to Montreal at a later date."
