Vision Racing closes their doors
George was CEO of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and founder of the Indy Racing League until he was asked to resign from his role last year. He remained Chairman of the board until recently vacating that post as well, completely divesting himself from the operations of the family business. Now it seems, he has not interest in continuing to contribute anything to the sport, and appears to have given up looking for funding to run Ed Carpenter.
George formed Vision racing to add wheels to the grid, purchasing the remains of the defunct Kelley Racing, running his step-son Ed Carpenter since 2005. Over the course of those seasons, Carpenter had several notable team-mates including Tomas Scheckter, AJ Foyt IV, Paul Tracy and Ryan Hunter-Reay.
The team's demise comes on the heels of one of their best seasons ever, with Carpenter showing well at a number of races and coming in a close second to Ryan Briscoe at Kentucky.
The Indianapolis Star reported Carpenter as saying: "We're suspending operations, but I don't know fully what that means. We're still pursuing opportunities to resume operations."
