Orlando Sentinel calls Daytona 500 “Great American Disgrace”
Daytona Beach does have its own newspaper, but it is more like a small town publication. I cant recall the last time I read anything negative about NASCAR, even when certainly deserved. However, most of the major media in the market originates out of Orlando, which is about 40 minutes down I4. Orlando also sees a lot of business from the Daytona events, as Orlando has a lot nicer hotels and other diversions to enjoy.
Unlike much of the media, and especially the motorsports media, the Orlando Sentinel has always been quite fearless when it comes to singing the truth about one of the biggest economic (and political) forces and families in Central Florida.
Mike Bianchi, the Orlando Sentinel sports columnist, is not shy about praise for NASCAR, maybe even optimistically. But this morning's Orlando Sentinel, he let them have it, and called the race the "Great American Disgrace" Check out the article here.
