Wind Tunnel Sunday
Featured Interview Nelson Piquet Jr. (Camping World Truck Series Rookie)
Former Formula One driver and current Camping World Truck Series rookie, Nelson Piquet Jr., will be a featured guest on Wind Tunnel this Sunday February 21st.
As the son of 3-time F1 World Champion, Nelson Piquet, Nelson Piquet Jr. spent years in the open wheel racing ranks aspiring to follow in his father’s footsteps. His success in British Formula 3 and GP2 caught the eye of the F1 world and in 2008, he landed a race seat with Renault F1. But that seat lasted just a year and a half before he was replaced as Fernando Alonso’s teammate.
Shortly thereafter, Piquet Jr., was involved in a controversy with team boss Flavio Briatore in which Piquet claimed Briatore told him to deliberately crash at the end of the 2008 Singapore GP to ensure his teammate would win the race. This controversy yielded Briatore an immediate ban from the sport, which has since been over-turned, but it also seems to have painted Piquet in a negative light with the sport’s elders.
So with that as background, Piquet, made the switch from open wheel to NASCAR this year, and in his debut race in the Camping World Truck Series in Daytona last week, he finished an impressive 6th and will be here to tell us about it.
