Nissan announces pricing for all-electric Leaf

Nissan plans to price its Leaf electric car as low as $32,780, when the automaker releases the vehicle later this year.

With a $7,500 federal tax credit, the Leaf’s base price would come down to $25,280. Nissan will lease the Leaf as low as $349 a month.

The tax rebates are even higher in certain states with state-sponsored tax credits for purchasing an electric vehicle.

Nissan will start taking orders for the five-door hatchback Leaf April 20, and deliver the car in select markets in December. Nissan will start selling the vehicle nationwide next year.

Nissan is renovating the Smyrna, Tenn., plant to build the 5-seat hatchback with the help of a $1.4 billion loan from the U.S. Department of Energy. The updated plant, which will also make batteries, will be built to make as many as 200,000 Leafs a year.

The Leaf’s price tag includes three years of roadside assistance.

The Leaf, which can run an average of 100 miles per charge, takes about 16 hours to charge up on a 110-volt outlet and 8 hours on a 220-volt outlet.
