Mika Salo to be F1 steward in 2010

(GMM) Mika Salo has become the latest former driver to agree to become a fourth formula one steward in 2010.

The 43-year-old Finn contested more than 100 grands prix until 2002 with the likes of Lotus, Tyrrell, Arrows, BAR, Ferrari, Sauber and Toyota.

"I was asked and I agreed to do a race this season," Salo, in Abu Dhabi this weekend to race in the GT1 category, is quoted as saying by Finland's Turun Sanomat.

He said he doesn't know when he will make his debut.

"The invitation comes a week before the race. It comes when it comes," said Salo.

He said he supports new FIA president Jean Todt's initiative to have a well-known and experienced driver sit alongside the regular F1 stewards at grands prix.

"For sure a driver sees the situation differently to someone who has never before driven a racing car or in F1," said Salo.
