Old Champ Car fan still bitter about split
Constant was the criticism of the TV deals, lack of sponsorships, venue locations, media exposure, lack of driver recognition , etc.
I would surmise that a lot of followers who were passionate about true Indy Car racing and not what we have today have just checked out. Randy Bernard's comments about everything outside of Indy is" just vanilla" and we need to build some major events is insulting. I travelled with CART for 13 years. Tell the people of Australia, Canada, Germany, England, Brazil, Japan, Netherlands, etc, they are just plain vanilla and not on the national event stage.
Tell the folks at Long Beach, Fontana, Road America, Cleveland, the same.
CART had it right…. Make no mistake, they had it dead right. Idiots like Tony George, AJ Foyt, and the list of owner/traitors killed it for INDY.
It's all about INDY. Indy is nothing more than the Kentucky Derby. People go out of respect for tradition . I would challenge AR1 this weekend to do a man on the street spot at Long Beach and see how many people can name last year’s Indy 500 winner, and as a bonus, see if they know who won the Daytona 500?
Paul Tracy has it a 100% right and was loyal to his sport till the end. As for Randy Bernard, he is the same type of guy CART and Champ Car were bringing in to solve their woes. Nothing changes.
PS. Where is the huge crown jewel national event, highly publicized and watched on TV PBR event????? OOPS they don't have one. Respectfully, William Kinsey
