Petty’s Brain Tumor “Completely Gone”

Lynda Petty's brain tumor is "completely gone," the Petty Family Foundation has reported on its Facebook page.

"Lynda went to Duke today for another MRI and the Brain Tumor/Cancer is completely gone!" the foundation reported in a post that went up Monday evening and was reposted Thursday on the Jayski NASCAR website.

"The entire Petty Family is very pleased and would like to thank everyone for the many, many prayers and thoughts as she went through a very difficult time! This is GREAT news! Thanks again to everyone!"

Lynda, whose husband is all-time leading NASCAR race winner Richard Petty, was diagnosed with a Central Nervous System lymphoma, which is a type of cancerous brain tumor, the Pettys revealed on Feb. 4.

She began chemotherapy treatments the following week at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., which is about 65 miles east of the Petty home in Level Cross, N.C. She started a second round just after the Daytona 500 on Feb. 14 at Daytona International Speedway, where Richard first addressed the subject publicly.

"It is a very rare form of cancer. It's very aggressive, but it's very treatable," a subdued Petty said the morning of the race he won a record seven times. "We feel like we've the got best people in the world looking after the deal. She's already had a couple of treatments and she's looking real good . They feel like they can completely wipe the cancer out.''
