Monteiro to join V8 Supercars round

Former Jordan driver Tiago Monteiro has confirmed that he will be driving in Queensland's round of the V8 Supercars season. The Portuguese driver, a regular in the World Touring Car Championship, will drive a Holden Commodore VE for Centaur Racing.

Usually at the wheel of a SEAT Le¢n in Europe, Monteiro will compete in the series formerly known as the Australian Touring Car Championship at the wheel of the car usually piloted by Tony d'Alberto; the Gold Coast 600 will see Tiago return to the track at which he competed in Champ Cars in 2003.
"Above all, it is an honor to be invited to take part in this event as well as some of the best drivers in the world," he commented. "I am always curious to discover different championships and I always loved racing in Australia when I was in ChampCar and F1.

"I want to thank the organizers of the Australian V8 Supercars Championship as well as the owner of the Centaur team, Al D'Alberto, for offering me this unique opportunity; and also to thank SEAT, who is always by my side and encourages me to take part in such an exceptional race outside the WTCC championship.

"Surfers Paradise has always been a great event and I am positive that it will be a great festival again this year!"

Other known names expected to be taking part 'Down Under' this October are 1997 F1 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve and 2008 IndyCar Champion Scott Dixon, amongst others.
