Weekly NASCAR cheaters report

NASCAR issued fines and points deductions against the No. 22 Dodge team that won last weekend's Nationwide Series race at Talladega Superspeedway.

Crew chief Paul Wolfe, who got his first career victory in the race, was fined $20,000 for violating a series of NASCAR rules. Trimmed to their core, they amount to using an illegal left front spring and an illegal right front shock absorber.

Team owner-of-record Jodi Geschickter (though Roger Penske actually runs the show), lost 50 Nationwide points for, in effect, not paying close enough attention to what her crew chief was doing.

Driver Brad Keselowski lost 50 Nationwide points for the same violations charged to his crew chief and team owner.

NASCAR officials discovered the violations during postrace inspection after the Sunday afternoon race. The 50-point penalty trimmed Keselowski's series lead to 10 points over Kevin Harvick, and to 54 over Kyle Busch.

In other NASCAR penalties Crew chief Bob Schacht of the No. 75 team for Bobby Gerhart was fined $7,500 for illegal suspension parts at Talladega. And Newt Moore, crew chief of the No. 05 team for Willie Allen, was fined $2,500 after being caught using illegal rear suspension parts at Talladega.
