Korea receives 1,600 marshal applications

The Korean International Circuit has received no less than 1,600 applications from those wishing to be voluntary race marshals ahead of the country's inaugural Formula 1 race this October.

24 October 2010 will see South Korea's Yeongam-based track play host to F1 for the first time; for the premier Abu Dhabi Grand Prix last year, the Yas Marina circuit invited a selection of British race marshals although Korea is accepting requests for a team of its own.

So far, various choices have been presented to officials, including a doctor, a crane operator, an Assemblyman's secretary and a Navy interpreter. All who submitted applications did so independently, as the circuit has run no promotions for marshals.

"We express sincere thanks to all the people interested in the Korean GP," said circuit representative Yung Cho Chung, CEO of Korea Auto Valley Operation (KAVO). "Through this invitation we can recognize people's interests and passion, who hope the Korean GP will succeed.

"Successful candidates will need to undergo various education and training programs."
