Brabham to run Aussie V8 series

David Brabham has been behind the wheel of a Formula One car and been crowned champion in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Now Brabham is about to slip back behind the wheel of a V8 Supercar.

Brabham, the youngest son of three-time F1 world champion Jack Brabham, has agreed to drive alongside Alex Davison in the Stone Brothers Racing Irwin Ford at the Phillip Island 500 and Bathurst 1000.

In addition, Brabham will also be the team's compulsory international driver at the revamped Armor All Gold Coast 600.

It will mark the Florida-based Brabham's sixth crack at winning a V8 enduro after having won (2-litre) at Bathurst in 1996.

He last got behind the wheel of a V8 in 2006, when he drove for the Ford Performance Racing team. "I've been away from V8 racing for too long," Brabham said. "It's going to be fantastic to drive for Irwin Racing.

"I've been to Bathurst many times. I've won there in a two-litre and now I want to win it in a V8. Stone Brothers set the benchmark very early on in terms of running the cars competitively."

Brabham is also looking forward to racing on the streets of the Gold Coast, knowing he has an advantage over the other international drivers.

"Obviously, it's going to be full on with all the internationals (drivers)," he said.

"Fortunately I'll get some practice beforehand at Phillip Island and Bathurst, which will make driving on the Gold Coast easier — in terms of understanding the Ford."
