Marco Andretti awarded third place in 500

Marco Andretti will be awarded third place and Danica Patrick sixth due to passes under yellow. Marco Andretti initially was listed sixth and Patrick fifth. The order was changed because of where the cars were when yellow came out on the final lap. Michael Andretti was going to protest, but said chief steward Brian Barnhart had already noticed.
“Marco just slowed down with the wreck," Michael Andretti said. “He was still doing pace-car speed, and the other guys were doing like 100 miles per hour and they passed him right at the end, which you can’t do. I didn’t have to protest because Brian took care of it."
Mario Andretti said he was listening to his grandson on the radio and there was no question third place was what he deserved.
“You don’t pass under yellow," Mario Andretti said. “He’s talking on the radio, in sixth gear, 2,200 rpm on the telemetry. There’s no question you don’t pass under yellow. Forty years in the business, and that’s the rule. I don’t think they changed it today."
