Haug: “Not where we want to be”

Mercedes motorsport boss Norbert Haug concedes 2010 is not going quite according to plan for Mercedes GP, who had hoped to be closer to the front by now.

Seven races into the season, last year's Championship victors have yet to win a grand prix and are only fourth in the Constructors' Championship, 72 points behind leaders McLaren.

It's a sharp contrast to last year's campaign where, running under the Brawn GP badge, the team claimed six of the opening seven race wins and a massive lead in both Championships.

"Our team has achieved 100 points in the seven races so far this season which is roughly one-third of the points available if you do an absolutely perfect job," said Haug.

"We are certainly not where we want to be yet, namely in a position to challenge for victories on a regular basis, however we are dedicated and have a very good spirit to achieve our targets."

Looking ahead to this weekend's Canadian GP, already Michael Schumacher has admitted Mercedes GP could struggle for top speed around the high-speed circuit.

However, their Mercedes engine is one of the more powerful on the grid, prompting Haug to admit he has no idea how Merc GP will perform in Montreal.

"It is difficult to predict where we could end up in Canada but we will certainly try as hard as we can." PlanetF1.com
