LeMans: Peugeot still leads at 12 Hour Mark

Halfway through its first race at the Le Mans 24 Hours in GT2, Corvette Racing showed the same dominance it exhibited in GT1. The two-car Corvette factory squad sat 1-2 in class through 12 hours of the world’s most famous auto race. Emmanuel Collard in the No. 64 Corvette C6.R led teammate Antonio Garcia in a frantic GT2 battle.

The Corvettes have been dominant so far with only the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430 GT challenging the yellow machines. The red Risi Ferrari retired in the 10th hour with a gear selector problem.

Richard Lietz in a Porsche 911 GT3 RSR was the best non-Corvette in GT2.

In LMP2, Highcroft Racing HPD ARX-01c was running second in class with Marco Werner two laps behind the leading Strakka Racing HPD. Marino Franchitti lost two laps with a tire puncture –one of many in the field so far. This is the first race at Le Mans for Duncan Dayton’s American team.

Out front, the Peugeot 908 HDi of Stephane Sarrazin, Franck Montagny and Nic Minassian was leading by a lap over the first of three Audi R15 TDIs. The lead Peugeot was the only of four 908s in the race to run unscathed through the first 12 hours. Andre Lotterer and Romain.
