Weekly NASCAR substance abuse report

UPDATE Officials from Randy Moss Motorsports made the following statement regarding the penalty handed out by NASCAR earlier today: “Randy Moss Motorsports is a firm supporter of NASCAR’s substance abuse policy and we recognize and support their effort," said Chip Wile, Vice President of Randy Moss Motorsports. “Our team has a zero-tolerance policy for substance abuse. As an organization we support and agree with NASCAR’s decision. We appreciate NASCAR’s diligence in keeping the garage area a safe environment where we can compete at the highest level week in and week out."

07/14/10 Phillip Gibson, a crew member for the No. 5 team in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, has been indefinitely suspended from NASCAR for violating the sanctioning body’s substance abuse policy. On July 11, Gibson was found to have violated Sections 12-1 (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 19 (violation of the NASCAR substance abuse policy) of the 2010 NASCAR Rule Book.
