MIS adds track lap days
MIS has added several dates for fans to take a few laps on the track, which has provided many great racing memories in its 43-year existence. Opportunities have been expanded to include dates throughout the end of August and most of September.
The speedway’s track laps program begins Monday and includes fans from all over Michigan and parts of Canada. Some fans have even purchased multiple lap opportunities across multiple days.
“We have had overwhelmingly positive feedback from fans who want to drive around MIS," track President Roger Curtis said. “We’ve had to add dates to accommodate everyone. It’s unbelievable how dedicated and excited race fans are."
For $25, fans may take three laps around the track at a maximum speed of 70 mph in their personal automobiles. The laps will be paced by the MIS pace car.
The scheduled dates are August 2-4, Aug. 6 and 23-25. New dates at the end of August and most of the month of September — Aug. 26-27, Aug. 30-31, Sept. 1-2, Sept. 7, Sept. 13-17, Sept. 20-24 and Sept. 27-30 were added as a result of quick sales. A complete list of dates can be found online at http://www.mispeedway.com/Vanity-Pages/Track-Laps.aspx
Drive time is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. each day.
Reservations may be made by calling 800-354-1010 (no online purchases are available). Advance sales are encouraged due to limited availability. Once a phone order has been placed, a ticket will be mailed to the guest in advance of their selected day. All guests must enter and present their ticket at the tunnel entrance to the track off of Brooklyn Highway.
Walk-up purchases can be made based on availability by visiting the MIS Administration Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, but Curtis said fans shouldn’t wait to buy.
“These laps are selling fast," Curtis said. “So anyone interested in seeing what it’s like to drive on 18 degrees of banking around one of the country’s most historic and awesome racetracks should call us soon!"
The track laps are limited to passenger vehicles only; no motorcycles. No passing of other vehicles will be allowed at any time. The driver of the vehicle must be 18 years of age and all participants will need to sign a waiver before driving on the track. Seatbelts and headlights must be on at all times. Laps will take place rain or shine. In the case of a date cancellation due to extreme weather or safety conditions, MIS will contact all guests in advance on their visit.
Nestled in the lush Irish Hills of Southeastern Michigan, Michigan International Speedway is the Great Escape, a venerable NASCAR national park where fans can get away and enjoy the very best in racing and camaraderie.
