The AMG Mercedes SLS GT3 made its debut at the Nürburgring yesterday during the 42nd Barbarossapreis. Bernd Schneider qualified the car in 3rd position in its maiden outing but nearly did not survive the opening lap in the Mercedes Arena ironically. He was hit by the Phoenix Audi R8 LMS of Frank Stippler who was out on the spot.

Schneider managed another lap around the Nordschleife but needed a 25 min repair to re-join the race. Former DTM racers Bernd Schneider and Thomas Jäger finished 89th overall but won their class.

The race was won by the Manthey Porsche 911 GT3 driven by the team of Richard Westbrook/Lucas Luhr ahead of Romain Dumas/Arno Klasen also with a Manthey Porsche. For the last two long distance events around the famous Nordschleife, Mercedes Benz will enter two cars.
