Daytona Repave Update: Project Reaches The Halfway Mark

The historic Daytona Repave project has reached halfway point. The crew from Lane Construction began the Daytona Repave project immediately following the Coke Zero 400 Powered By Coca-Cola in early July and has spent the past three months putting down a new racing surface on Daytona International Speedway's 2.5-mile tri-oval, skid pad, apron and pit road. Three months remain in the project that will put down 50,000 tons of asphalt on 1.4 million square feet. Here are the updates from the 13th week of work on repaving Daytona International Speedway:

· Demolition of the old asphalt in Turns 1 and 2 began on Friday
· Paving on the skid pad extension continues
· Milling of asphalt on the apron on the Superstretch
· Work on paving the wearing course in Turns 3 and 4, through the start/finish line to the entrance of Turn 1 remains ongoing.

Lane Construction, which repaved other ISC race tracks will use an estimated 50,000 tons of asphalt to repave more than 1.4 million square feet of Daytona International Speedway and has a target completion date of Jan. 1, 2011. Race fans can view the progression of the historic repaving project from a section of the Oldfield Grandstands, which will open free to the public. Track tours will also be available through attraction admission to Daytona 500 Experience.
