New front splitter for Sprint Cup cars in 2011

The cars of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series teams will have a different, more natural look in 2011, with changes on the front of the cars featuring a single molded piece instead of the current two-piece splitter held in place by metal braces.

NASCAR officials aren’t expected to release the final version of the new nose for the 2011 Sprint Cup cars to team until next week. Until then, teams such as Stewart-Haas Racing have already been busy working with what they expect to be something close to the finished product.

The 2011 front end of the Chevrolet was on display when Tony Stewart unveiled his 2011 car sponsored by Mobil 1.

“There still could be some subtle changes to it," Bobby Hutchens, director of competition for SHR, said Tuesday, “but for the most part, I think what you see there from a visual standpoint will be what you see next season."

Hutchens said the new front end has created “a little change in the balance shift, and we’re trying to put that back where we want it.

“But that’s just one of those things … we do that every winter anyway with rule [changes] and new cars trying to improve our performance. We just kind of work it into our regular aero schedule." Scenedaily.com
