Legends of Ascot Event a Hit with Attendees and Race Fans
David Cardey, Rip Williams, Tony Jones, and Danny “Showtime" Sheridan were invited to race in a series of four; four lap, four car races, with drivers earning points in each race. The winner, David Cardey, walked away with $5,600 in cash! Cardey won the first of the four races and gained a one point advantage over the competition at the end of four. Congratulations David!
Don Weaver, founder and promoter of the Event wants to thank all the attendees for their continued support. With more than forty Vintage Race Cars on display, the Legends of Ascot commemorated the following 2010 Honorees: race team owner Vel Miletich, drivers Paul Jones and Tony Simon, and track official Evelyn Pratt. Cary Agajanian, with brothers J.C. Agajanian Jr and Chris Agajanian, received the Legends of Ascot Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition, the 2010 Event's Special Guests included Parnelli Jones, and Vince and Andy Granatelli. In honor of Vel Miletich, Parnelli Jones and Andy Granatelli, on display was the Vels Parnelli Jones Racing #60 STP Turbine car driven by Joe Leonard.
Racing enthusiasts from all over the US and Canada have enjoyed what has now become the largest open wheel racers reunion of its type in North America. The event celebrates the people involved in the 33 years of operation at Ascot Park, in Gardena, California, from 1957 through 1990. Past honorees include Parnelli Jones, J. C. Agajanian Sr, Hal Minyard, Allen Heath, Dean Thompson, Ted Halibrand, and Bobby Hogle to name a few.
