SPEED Set to Deliver Four Hours of World of Outlaws coverage
The four-hour broadcast will be highlighted by season-ending races to decide this year’s champion in WoO Sprint Car, Late Model and Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds, the newest edition to this annual fete.
Dave Despain, host of Wind Tunnel, will anchor the coverage as the network will switch between two broadcast crews. Long-time sprint car series announcer Bobby Gerould and 2001 National Sprint Car Hall of Fame inductee Brad Doty will cover the sprint cars, while the Late Models and Super Modifieds have the familiar voices of Shane Andrews and Dr. Dick Berggren in the booth. Providing insights on pit road are Sarah Jane Hunt and Terry Bokhoven.
“This is a huge weekend of dirt track racing on SPEED," said Hunter Nickell, SPEED President. “For four hours, and the first time in live high definition, race fans from throughout the country have a chance to see some of the best side-by-side action you’ll see anywhere. The World of Outlaws is positioned at the top in the world of dirt track racing."
The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series battle for the championship is the closest in the sport’s long history. Jason Meyers, who currently leads the pack with 10 A-Main victories this year, is mere points ahead of four-time and defending champion Donny Schatz, 20-time World of Outlaws driving champion Steve Kinser and Kasey Kahne Racing’s Joey Saldana, who’s already scored 13 A-Main victories this season.
An equally close race is being waged in World of Outlaws Late Model Series championship as Josh Richards aims for a single-season record in series wins. But his possible historic run still may not be enough to hold off the late-season charges of Darrell Lanigan, Tim McReadie or Steve Francis.
Leader Matt Sheppard hopes to outrun a last-weekend challenge from Jimmy Phelps to secure the SUPER Dirt Big Block championship as well.
