Tony Stewart wins Las Vegas Sprint Car Nationals

Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart won the first edition of the Las Vegas Sprint Car Nationals Presented By K&N Filters tonight at the Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The win was Stewart's first-ever Lucas Oil ASCS Sprint Car victory in only his second ASCS start.

The redraw following the B-Features placed Tony Stewart and teammate Jessica Zemken together in the third row in sixth and fifth positions, respectively. At the opening green flag, Sam Hafertepe Jr. ran from the fourth row to take the lead. Following a caution flag for debris with 15 laps remaining, Stewart, driving Steve Kinser's car, passed two cars and took the lead. As soon as Stewart took the lead he began to put distance between himself and second-place runner Brian Brown. Jack Dover occupied third place. The caution flag flew again with 10 laps remaining and Stewart held the top spot on the restart and once again ran away from the field. Another caution flag with two laps remaining gave Brown one more shot at Stewart. The final green flag flew, Stewart dropped the hammer and went on to win his first ASCS Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series win. Brown finished second and Dover was third.

Eight-lap ASCS Sprint Car heats were won by: Jack Dover, Ricky Logan, Sam Hafertepe Jr., Chris Schmelzi, Dustin Morgan, Jessica Zemken, Shane Stewart and Lucas Wolfe. ASCS Sprint Car B-Features were won by Jeff Covington, Tim Kaeding and Ben Gregg.

Alex Stanford of Chowchilla, Calif. won his 20th IMCA Modified A-Feature of the 2010 season. Ryan Cottrell finished second and Dan Fitzgerald of Las Vegas was third. Troy Morris Jr. was fourth. IMCA Modified heats were won by: Ryan Cottrell and Alex Stanford.
