India to host FIA Gala and key meetings next year

(GMM) Next year's formula one world champion will be officially crowned in New Delhi.

Indian reports reveal that the next end-of-season FIA Gala event, traditionally held in Monte Carlo, is scheduled to take place in the capital — a first for Asia.

The news was confirmed by the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), after its chairman and Force India boss Vijay Mallya made a presentation at the recent World Motor Sport Council meeting.

New Delhi is also scheduled to host its inaugural grand prix next year, in late October, and a MotoGP event is also on the cards.

Also to take place in New Delhi at the time of the FIA Gala are the World Motor Sport Council meeting and the governing body's Annual General Meeting.

"It is a clear indication that India is now well and truly on the world map even in the motor sport world," said FMSCI president K D Madan.
