Trivia Question on Daytona repaving

UPDATE John G. Callanan is the winner of the Trivia question. Kyle Petty won the ARCA 300 race on the Sunday prior to the Daytona 500 that year and was the first winner on the repaved 2.5-mile oval. Buddy Baker was the 2nd winner, having won the first of two 125-mile Daytona 500 qualifying races on Thursday. Darrell Waltrip was the 3rd winner, having won the 2nd 125-mile qualifying race.

On Friday defending F1 World Driving Champion and CART star Mario Andretti amazing lapped the field in winning the IROC race over Cale Yarborough. Still smarting over Mario's domination in the 1967 Daytona 500, the NASCAR media in attendance were so miffed by his domination again that there was zero, we repeat, zero articles published on this win the following day. And so goes the bias by the NASCAR-groupie American motorsport media toward open wheel racing.
