Mercedes says all future AMG models to include electric
Future AMG models will gain other fuel saving technologies as well, such as start-stop and energy recuperation devices.
The former CEO of AMG, Volker Mornhin, said back in 2008 that it was experimenting with batteries, ultracapacitors and flywheels. Yet when he said that he was speaking about using the hybrid technology to boost power. Instead the company has decided to focus on using the hybrid technology to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Hybrid from the Volkswagen group will be among the first vehicles that will focus on using the hybrid technology to boost the cars power. The way the Porsche 919 RSR uses its flywheel technology is a good example of this.
Mercedes will continue to expand its range of high performance vehicles that are more environmentally friendly. Included in this range will be the new SLS AMG E-Cell, a fully electric version of the SLS. The SLS E-Cell will be almost as fast as its petrol-powered sibling and is currently under development.
