Grid penalties for Aleshin and Fauzy

Mikhail Aleshin and Fairuz Fauzy have both been given grid penalties for Friday's season-opening round of the GP2 Asia Series in Abu Dhabi. The pair were involved in separate incidents, with Aleshin's occurring in practice, and Fauzy's during this afternoon's qualifying session.

Aleshin received a three-place drop on the grid, after completing an extra lap when the checkered flag had fallen during practice. Ex-Lotus tester and current Lotus Renault GP young-driver Fauzy was awarded with a 10-place penalty after colliding with Super Nova team-mate Johnny Cecotto.

The penalties mean that Aleshin will start the first race of this year's GP2 Asia campaign from 23rd place, with Fauzy moved to the final position on the grid in 26th.
