FIA might change some tracks

The FIA has announced that it will be looking in to the layout of circuits as it seeks to increase overtaking in Formula One.

Following a World Motor Sports Council meeting, it was announced that "the Circuit Design Group is examining Grand Prix Circuits to identify the possibility of increasing the opportunities for overtaking."

Formula One figures past and present have highlighted track designs as a key area to improve chances to pass, with the likes of Sir Jackie Stewart and McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh particularly critical of the layout of the newer circuits on the calendar.

The FIA's announcement comes before new measures brought in to aid overtaking this season have even been seen in a race scenario, further adding to the belief that KERS and the movable rear wing may not have a major impact on overtaking.
