Herbert confirmed as Melbourne Race Steward

Former Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert will be making his fourth appearance as an FIA race steward in Australia this weekend, after taking on the role infrequently last season. The 46-year-old was a part of the stewards’ panel at Malaysia, Turkey and Brazil in 2010, and has accepted the request to take on the role once again.

The Essex-born driver began his Formula 1 career at Benetton in 1989, scoring points in his debut race at the Brazilian Grand Prix. He then went on to secure drives at outfits such as Team Lotus, Sauber, Stewart and Jaguar Racing.

Herbert’s biggest success came in 1995 while driving for Benetton, with the Briton achieving four podium finishes, including two victories – at the prestigious venues of Silverstone and Monza – en route to fourth place in the final championship standings.
