Vettel and Webber to open Red Bull Ring

This May, Red Bull Racing will be conducting demonstration runs to signal the official opening of the Red Bull Ring – formerly known as A1-Ring and home of the Austrian Grand Prix. World Champion Sebastian Vettel and team-mate Mark Webber will both be in attendance using last year’s double title-winning RB6.

According to Brazilian website TotalRace, the weekend will also feature a selection of historic Formula 1 cars at the venue and will follow an unofficial opening for the track on 16 April, with a regional touring car race acting as a rehearsal for circuit organizers.

The confirmation of the launch date is already fuelling speculation in the Austria about a possible return to the country for Formula 1, which last hosted an event in 2003 as Michael Schumacher escaped a fiery pit-stop to enjoy victory for Ferrari.
