14 new teams bidding for 2012 MotoGP grid slot

With MotoGP fields being very slim in recent years comes word that fourteen new MotoGP teams are fighting for places on next year’s starting grid, with governing body the FIM and commercial rights holder Dorna Sports having received applications in Portugal at the weekend. Accepted teams will be confirmed at the start of next month.

With 16 applications having been reviewed, the FIM and Dorna elected to provide all outfits bar two with full prospectuses regarding a 2012 entry, with the documents in question detailing terms and conditions of participation.

Those who still wish to proceed with their applications now have until Saturday 14 May to submit comprehensive details of their participation plans; these plans will then be reviewed at the French round of the championship next time out, with suitable acceptances, rejections or ‘pending’ decisions being sent out afterwards.

Those accepted immediately will be presented with a deadline of Friday 3 June to lodge a security deposit with IRTA, after which a final list of accepted teams will be published.
